The Road to Reducing My Carbon Footprint: Week 1

Thats right, I am taking on the challenge that so many (yet not a lot) has taken before me. I will decrease my carbon footprint. 

I’m a college student that, although recycles on a regular basis, still could do more to help reduce my carbon footprint. 

So lets start with the basics. 

What is a carbon footprint? A carbon footprint is “the total set of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organization, event or product” (UK Carbon Trust 2008)

Armed with this knowledge, I decided to calculate my own carbon footprint. (Calculation courtesy of conservation.org) 

My carbon footprint is 18.5 

Compared with the average of 24.0

A big part of running a charity is marketing, (So people know who you are and why they should give to you). Luckily I am a marketing major. Logically, this would mean that I am a certifiable marketer (at least on paper). True? I am not completely sure. Although I do have some good ideas that would help get the word out (present company included), I feel like there should be something more. Something bigger. I’m sure I’ll think of it in due time. For now, I’ll just  keep writing…

Big Heart Koala

BGHeart supports Big Heart Koala.

More than 4000 koalas are killed every year through habitat destruction, dogs and road kill. The Koala’s habitat is limited to a few areas in Australia. Continual loss of habitat is the main cause of Koalas being close to extinction. Due to the Koala’s pressing need for help, Big Heart Koala was born.

Since the founding of BHK has raised of money towards the conservation of Koalas. 

(All proceeds go to the World Wildlife Fund)
